2022


January
  • January 4, 2022: ODCB rehearsals resume at CSMS. Masks were still being worn and we made an attempt to exercise social distancing. Kyle Obereier started playing trumpet with The Band. #1078 – Summon the Heroes, #1079 – Bolero, and #1080 – Cinema Paradiso added to the library.
  • January 11: U of E Community Band resumes rehearsals.
  • January 17: Red Banks Re-Union resumed rehearsals.
  • January 19: River Brass Band was scheduled to resume rehearsals but cancelled at the last minute due to COVID protocols.
  • January 20: BBQ was scheduled to resume but cancelled; it was snowy and cold.
  • January 25: COVID going around. Terri and I both tested positive.
  • January 29: No LODB. Several band members out.

February
  • February 1: No ODCB. Several band members out with COVID.
  • February 2: No River Brass Band.
  • February 3: No BBQ due to snow and ice.
  • February 5: No LODB.
  • February 8: Tarri McGee came to ODCB for the 1st time. Plays oboe and English horn.
  • February 12: The LODB was scheduled to play at The Really Big Show but it went virtual due to COVID.
  • February 15: Masking at band changed to optional (per school protocol).
  • February 23: No River Brass Band. Still trying to establish COVID policy.
  • February 26: The Little Old Dam Band played for the Kiwanis ‘Riley Walk’ at 9 am at Eastland Mall.

March
  • March 1: New trumpet player at ODCB… Bryan Schrock, undertaker from Owensboro.
  • March 2: River Brass finally resumed in the gym at Epworth Church.
  • March 3: (unless noted otherwise… Shrine Band or Red Banks bands on Monday. ODCB on Tuesdays, River Brass on Wednesdays, BBQ at 10 am on Thursdays, U of E Band at 7 pm on Thursdays, and LODB on Saturdays at 9 am. Some groups still a little ‘hit and miss’ due to COVID protocols.)
  • March 20: Red Banks Re-Union Band was scheduled for an educational program at New Harmony but it went virtual.
  • March 26: ODCB Spring concert at Friedman Park. (cold and windy)
  • March 30: Mitch Reynolds joined the band on trumpet.
  • March 31: ODCB to Castle North due to concert at Castle South band concert.

April
  • April 19: BBQ to Friedman Park for rehearsal.
  • April 26: No BBQ. Painters here.
  • April 28: ODCB played at Rose Hill for their Memorial Day service. Largest band ever here for this.

May
  • May 29: LODB and BBQ played for Newburgh’s Strawberry Fest.
  • May 31: Jerry not at band. Jimmy Moore conducted.

June
  • June 4: Dan left LODB early to play with The Rhine Valley Brass at Haubstadt Days.
  • June 11: No LODB. Too many out.
  • June 14: CSMS down for cleaning. ODCB rehearsal at Castle North Middle School.
  • June 18: No LODB. Dan and Terri gone to Peru, IN for circus weekend.
  • June 25: Dan and Jerry to Lincoln Park to play with Red Banks Band.

July
  • July 3: ODCB played before the Henderson Fireworks.
  • July 7: Several ODCB members to Spencer County High to rehearse with Jon Patton’s ‘Midway Band’.
  • July 9: Played with Jon’s band at 4 pm for the Midway Ice Cream Social.
  • July 12: Dan and Terri at ‘Windjammers’. The music was left at CSMS last week.
  • July 14: No BBQ.
  • July 16: No LODB.
  • July 19: Andrew Vanada (one of Jerry’s old students) joined the ODCB.

August
  • August 29: Last time Dan went to play with Hadi band in 2022.

September
  • September 6: Thomas McCay joined ODCB on valve trombone.
  • September 17: LODB played at New Harmony Kunstfest from 1 to 2:30 in Ribeyre.
  • September 18: LODB played at New Harmony in McClure Park from Noon to 4.
  • September 25: LODB scheduled to play at 8 am at Komen walk but it was too cold and windy.
  • September 27: ODCB Fall concert at Friedman Park.

October
  • October 4: Jerry out. Dick Bernhardt directed.
  • October 8: Randy Wheeler donated a DVD burner to The Band.
  • October 11: Jerry out. Dick Bernhardt and Jimmy Moore directed. Reed Stover, saxophone, joined band.
  • October 23: ODCB band members entertained from 1 to 4 at the Halloween event at Friedman Park.
  • October 25: Joanne Gelep (friend of Frank Book) joined band playing sleigh bells for our upcoming concert.

November
  • November 3: BBQ cancelled so several of us could play at The Wartime Museum with Red Banks group.
  • November 5: No LODB.
  • November 6: ODCB Annual Meeting at the Newburgh Central Library. Band dinner with chicken from Walmart at 1 pm.

December
  • December 2: ODCB Christmas concert at First Christian Church at 7 pm.
  • December 3: BBQ played at 1 pm in Downtown Newburgh. MJ’s flute group played from 11 to 1.
  • December 6: No ODCB.
  • December 7: Roger Jarvis (trombone) died. Roger had not been at band since early September. He had suffered from Alzheimer’s for several years and remained with The Band with much help from the trombone section.
  • December 13: No ODCB.
  • December 17: Not enough LODB here to make music. Jack, Jerry, Joe, Frank, and Dan just had donuts and coffee.
  • December 20: Band party at Dan and Terri’s house complete with the traditional ‘Dirty Santa’ gift exchange.
  • December 27: No ODCB.
