Old Dam Community Band 2012 history
- The Old Dam Community Band continues to rehearse on Tuesday evenings at Castle South Middle School.
- BBQ (Big Brass Quartet) continues to meet on Thursday evenings at Dan’s house.
- The Little Old Dam Band continues to meet on Saturday mornings either at Dan’s house or for a performance.
January 3 – Old Dam Community Band rehearsals resume at Castle South Middle School under the direction of Jerry Reese.
January 10 – Regular rehearsal at Castle South. Carl Becker brought Jim Sermershein and Terry Bailey took him home. This is the first time Jim has been back with us for over a year since his open heart surgery and over a year-long recovery from a stroke.
January 28 – The Little Old Dam Band performed at Newburgh Health Care.
February 18 – The Little Old Dam Band performed for a dinner at Trinity Avangelican Church at 5:30.
February 8 – The first session of The Old Dam Big Band at Dan & Terri’s house. We’ve decided to drop Big Brass Quartet for a while in order to take a shot at some ‘big band’ music so more people can be involved. The first session went well with participation by about thirteen people.
April 3 – ‘First Tuesday’ started. The first Tuesday rehearsal of each month, band members bring snacks to celebrate birthdays for the month. We decided to play through our normal ‘pottie break’ and spend the last twenty minutes or so of rehearsal socializing and snacking.
April 27 – The Little Old Dam Band participated in the ‘Walk-a-thon’ at Washington Square Mall.
May 5 – The Little Old Dam Band performed before Newburgh’s Rivertown Trail 5K Walk at 9am.
May 19 – The Old Dam Community Band played at The Strawberry Festival from 5 to 6.
May 26 – The Old Dam Community Band participated in the Rose Hill Cemetery Memorial Service at 10:30.
June 2 – The Little Old Dam Band performed at the Newburgh Farmer’s Market from 9 to 11 and then at Noon for Newburgh’s ‘fireworks rally’ fundraiser.
June 12 – Rehearsed at Castle High School due to Summer cleaning at Castle South Middle School. Thanks for Faril Bunner and Mark Eifler for making the arrangements.
June 16 – The Little Old Dam Band played at the Newburgh Farmer’s Market.
June 30 – The Old Dam Community Band participated in Newburgh’s parade.
July 4 – Annual 4th of July concert, picnic, and fireworks. It rained early but we managed to eat and perform. A good time!
July 14 – The Little Old Dam Band played at Newburgh’s Farmers Market.
July 19 – The Little Old Dam Band played for a Newburgh Museum fundraiser at 7pm in ‘The Quarter’ in Downtown Newburgh. Jim Moore subbed for Dan on tuba.
July 24 – Dan Schultz attend a ‘Master Plan’ meeting at Newburgh Town Hall. A performance pavilion is back on the Master Plan after being ignored for a few years. The area designated for a future band shell (or performance pavilion) is at the foot of the hill where the two lockmaster cottages are located at Newburgh’s Lock & Dam Park.
July 28 – The Little Old Dam Band performed at Newburgh’s Farmers Market.
August 5 – The Little Old Dam Band performed at 4pm at Fred Hormuth’s Neighborhood Association party.
August 11 – The Little Old Dam Band performed at Newburgh’s Farmers Market.
August 18 – The Little Old Dam Band performed at The Protestant Home in Evansville.
August 25 – The Little Old Dam Band performed at Newburgh’s Farmers Market.
August 30 – The Thursday evening music format has changed to what we refer to as a ‘day band’. Anyone who plays in The Old Dam Community Band who is available to play during the day is welcome. The Band has received some performance requests for times during the day when many band members work.
September 1 – The Little Old Dam Band performed at the Evansville Oaklyn Library.
September 8 – The little Old Dam Band played at 10am for the annual Rathbone Home Veteran’s Program.
September 11 – The Old Dam Community Band performed a special concert to honor the local ‘first responders’ and veterans on the parking lot in front of Newburgh’s town hall. We were accosted by the local fire marshal about our permit…. which we did not have!
September 22 – The Little Old Dam Band performed at Newburgh’s Farmers Market.
October 6 – The Old Dam Community Band participated in the Nut Club Fall Festival Parade on West Franklin Street. Always a good time!
October 20 – A group of band members got together to repaint and make a few minor repairs to The Band’s parade trailer.
October 27 – The Old Dam Community Band led Newburgh’s Halloween Children’s Parade.
November 4 – The Old Dam Community Band ‘annual meeting’ at the Newburgh Library. Once again…. a great ‘pitch in’ meal followed by a short business meeting and a recital by our small ensembles.
November 11 – The Little Old Dam Band played from 6 to 8pm for Sear’s ‘family night’ at Washington Square Mall. Of special interest was the Russian sales clerk who came out to dance to ‘Midnight in Moscow’ and ‘O-Che-Chon-Ya’!
November 18 – The Old Dam Community Band participated in The North Main Street Parade. Our parade trailer continues to serve us well after about ten years. The trailer has a canopy, lighting, and seating for eighteen musicians.
December 1 – Strolling musicians from The Old Dam Community Band participated in Newburgh Celebrates Christmas from 10am to Noon.
December 4 – The ‘Day Band’ performed holiday music for the Holy Rosary Church ‘seniors club’ at Noon.
December 7 – The ‘Day Band’ performed Christmas music at James Leslie’s church from 11 to Noon.
December 9 – The Little Old Dam Band once again performed for the annual Christmas party at Carl Zimmerman’s condo.
December 11 – The ‘Day Band’ performed Christmas music for The Newburgh Women’s Club luncheon at Rolling Hills Country Club.
December 11 – The Old Dam Community Band held a Christmas concert at the Newburgh Central Library at 7pm.
December 18 – The Old Dam Community Band performed a Christmas concert at the Evansville Downtown Central Library at 7pm.
December 29 – Annual band Christmas party at Dan and Terri’s house.
